Hurriyat Conference on Wednesday upbraided UN Chief for his unrealistic remarks on Kashmir.
Describing the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon’s recent statement as “far from reality”, the Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq today said that relations between India and Pakistan would not improve nor human rights violations here end unless the core issue of Kashmir was resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
“The WikiLeaks expose of state-inflicted torture and human rights violations in Kashmir should open the eyes of all champions of justice and humanity,” the Hurriyat said in a statement issued here.
“The fact is that the cycle of death and destruction at the hands of Indian forces in Kashmir is still on, with the killing of 115 innocent youth in recent months as the latest example,” it said.
“The Hurriyat Conference has been trying from the outset to improve relations between India and Pakistan, so that all the three parties’ sit together to work out a solution to the Kashmir issue,” it said.
“The Hurriyat Conference has put certain proposals before India implementing which would create a conducive atmosphere, and pave the way for the three parties to arrive at an enduring and an acceptable solution,” it said.
“The people of Kashmir have great expectations from the UN which being a responsible world body should play an effective and positive role out of respect for its moral and constitutional duties,” it said.
