Support for Labour is plummeting, according to new voter research published here Tuesday.
The latest Guardian newspaper opinion poll puts the Conservatives on 40 percent, the party's highest rating in the newspaper's surveys since March 2010 and five points ahead of the Opposition.
Separate research carried out by Populus group for The Times newspaper sees Labour on 38 points, down one since December, while the Conservatives gained two taking them to 37.
It also reported the number of voters who "find it difficult to imagine opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband running the country as prime minister" was growing - up from 63 percent in September to 68 percent in the latest survey.
Populus interviewed 1,503 adults while the ICM Research for the Guardian newspaper surveyed 1,003 adults.
Both polls were carried out between January 20-22.
